Hiking Yellowstone–Natural Sciences Guild

Return to Yellowstone with naturalist James Halfpenny. One of the highlights of fall in the Northern Range and Lamar Valley is the Elk Rut, the spectacular mating ritual. Grizzly bears are fattening up for hibernation and wolves are teaching hunting skills to the new crop of pups. Be prepared to hike high altitudes in Yellowstone and the Beartooths. Ashland Revisited–Art Guild

Join us in the beautiful Rogue Valley and the 2009 season of the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. In addition to seeing four plays, highlights include an opening reception at the Schneider Museum of Art, visits to Ashland galleries, and stopping at Calatrava’s Sundial Bridge in Redding and the Living Memorial Sculpture Garden. Italy—a treasure chest of art and a culinary delight—is an exciting Art Guild destination. Vibrant Turin is Piemonte's capitol city with magnificent art galleries, outstanding museums, baroque architecture and privately owned palazzos. South of Turin, we explore Le Langhe, the glorious wine country, plus the Slow Food Academy in Cherasco, international headquarters of the Slow Food Movement before we journey to Genoa where we plan to visit the studio of architect Renzo Piano. Colonial America–History Guild

Our final trip of 2009 with Gary and Daytripping. Celebrate America and explore our heritage. Starting in Boston, we work our way to Colonial Williamsburg, discovering historic treasures in between, such as Hyde Park, home of FDR, and the homes of our first five Presidents. Costa Rica—Off the BeatenTrack–Natural Sciences Guild

This specially crafted 12-day trip brings us in contact with the natural resources of the South Pacific region of Costa Rica, an area that sees fewer tourists than the north. We will go as the wet season ends, when the forests and gardens are lush and regenerated. With our naturalist guide, we can expect see wonderful birds as well as other wildlife on land and sea. Highlights include two nights at the Savegre Lodge in the cloud forest of the Tallamanca Mountains and two nights at Las Cruces Biological Station, where we will visit one of the finest collections of tropical plants in Central America. The Philadelphia Story–Art Guild

This will likely be our last opportunity to visit The Barnes Foundation, a major private collection of Impressionist, Post Impressionist, and American early modern art. The collection is still in its original suburban mansion, but will soon be making a controversial move downtown. Among other highlights are the 33rd annual Philadelphia Craft Show, a premier exhibition and sale of the best of contemporary American craft; The Philadelphia Museum of Art and the Rodin Museum.
